Web 2.0: The “new internet”
The Future of the Internet:
The term Web 2.0 was coined in 1999 by Darcy DiNucci, in her article “Fragmented Future” . This refers to a new type of internet, which will allow people to interactively communicate and share information in a way not yet realized. Although we are making strides towards Web 2.0, we are not quite there yet. Recent advances have showed us a glimpse of the potential of our “new” internet. Our current internet operates out of a static web browser. This allows you to search and view information and media on a wide variety of topics. However, the information is merly displayed for you. Web 2.0 will push social networking and file transfer to a more public interface allowing people to not only view the information, but also comment and even make changes to the information at hand. By allowing people to leave a comments, or chat live with a professional, people will be exposed to numerous views and opinions on the same topic.
As technology advances it is becoming more and more a part of our daily lives. We use the internet on an almost daily basis from school, to fun, and even our jobs. Staying current with these new techologies is key to succeeding in the workplace. The demand for people able to understand and utilize the tools is growing faster than the technology itself. With Web 2.0 on the horizon the limit of tools available to us may become infinite. Live internet conferencing, blog chats with real life professionals in numerous fields, social-networking sites, and customizable web pages are but a few of the amazing tools that will soon be available to us in the near future.
